Maurice Gamblin and his Wood Turnings. |
Maurice fell in love with wood turning at the age of forty and is now an accomplished artist, teaching others how to enjoy the gift of turning wood. He exhibits his art in several fine galleries and craft shops in Canada. His works have been taken all over the world and students have come to him from many countries. He draws much of his inspiration from nature itself. The unique cherry, maple, birch, and cedar burls lend themselves well to Maurice's creative instincts. Each burl is unique so each piece Maurice creates is unique as well.
His love of wood is reflected in the way he uses the natural color and grain structure to bring out the spirit hidden in each burl. The clean classic lines of his vases and bowls lets the natural beauty of the wood speak for itself.

Here is Maurice reclining in one of his turnings. The photo comes from an excellent article about him, "Bowled Over", in the September 1993 issue of Canadian Workshop.
Maurice's studio, workshop, and classroom is on the Trans-Canada Highway, almost due East of Presque Isle, Maine. To get there from the U.S., drive to the northern end of Interstate 95 and turn left.
